Is the Drawn-Out anthology still happening?

It is! I promise. These projects never happen on the schedule you think they will, especially with so many parts to organize. We’re working with a publisher to iron things out before moving on to the next step.

will you be doing a second anthology/publication if this one goes well? I just discovered this tumblr and am very interested in this amazing project, but it looks like I came across it a little late.

Maybe? It’s hard to say. Maybe we’ll do an LGBT anthology on a different topic. The future is full of possibilities, but lacking on certainties.

Will everything be posted in this Tumblr or will there be a website for the project later on?

We’ve sent out acceptance/rejection letters, so anyone who submitted should know if they made the cut or not. Can I just say, WOW, there was so much talent, and this was hard. We had to reject so many good creators, but that’s how it goes. Maybe this will be so successful, we’ll do another one.

We’re collecting creator bios now, and we’ll reveal to you all who’s going to be in it, along with a whole bunch of other details.

The book is going to be around 160 pages, and we want a range of different types of stories, so whatever fills that space and gives us a good variety. It could be 160 one-pagers or it could be ten 16-pagers. It will probably be somewhere in the middle.

First of all, thank you to EVERYONE who sent us proposals, art and stories. We received over 150 fantastic emails that we now get the pleasure of sorting through!

We will be contacting contributors who have been selected for the book on or about as close to April 30th as we can! From then, folks chosen will have several months to complete their pieces.

Thank you for being patient with us, and for all the hard work! We’re so excited about making this happen.

I would love to draw something up for this, but... I don't have a whole lot of spare time due to school. When is the deadline for the actual comics? Is there a limited page count? I wanted to know so I could plan it out as practically as possible over the little free time I do have. Also, this project is amazing <33 Even if I don't get to be part of it, I'll definitely try and get a copy! :D

6-9 months to draw the actual comics. So hopefully you can find some spare time in that span.

Concerning the french artist who was unsure about their english, if there's any frenchies that are picked and want a fluent french/english person to check their texts, I can help :)

We don’t need completed pages, just your information, a summary of what your coming out story is, and a sample of your artwork. Spread the word and get those submissions in!

Oh, sure. If spelling/grammar is hard to understand we’ll just figure out what the correct words are. But I don’t think it’ll be a problem.

Apologies if I'm getting ahead of myself, but if we send in sample pages before march 31st along with our character designs, etc., are there specs for that yet? Or is that something we will all find out at a later date? Thanks! :D

We’re purposely not giving out specs because we don’t want finished pages, just an outline of the story and examples of the art. When we know who’s getting in, we’ll send out the specs then.

Hi there, I know what you're looking for is nonfiction, but could we add surrealistic elements or maybe even just embelish a little? Sorry it's just that my own personal stories were rather non-eventful/boring. xD;;

I guess yes and no. We’re going for true-life stories. There’s ways to spruce up a tale without embellishing the truth. Find an interesting angle.

It’s not just about what happens, but how you feel about it. If you want to portray coming out as a monster that is stalking you from the shadows or something symbolic like that, that’s cool. Stuff like that. Just let the reader be able to tell fact from symbolism.

Some other ideas:

The story isn’t just about the exact moment you came out. It can be about the build up before, the nervousness and confusion and figuring out just who to tell. And can be about what comes after, whether it be relief or anguish or a zillion different results that keep happening for the rest of your life.

While many of us have a big Coming Out, we also tend to have a lot of little ones as we meet new people. Maybe one of those littler ones sparked something interesting.

Hopefully this helps you find a way to spruce up your story. Even if you’re not sure it’s exactly what we want, submit it. We won’t say “It’s not 100% perfect so rejected!” We’ll talk to you about it. That’s part of why we’re taking proposals first instead of finished comics.

how many different comics are you hoping to include/how many total pages are you hoping to cover in all?

About 140-160 pages

I've already drawn a comic on the subject quite recently. If I were to submit a proposal of that story and you chose it, would the previous comic be okay or would it have to be something completely new.

I sent in my submission, but I'm nervous that my summary isn't as long or detailed as you're looking for (or maybe it's too long?). If it's not enough, will I have the opportunity to send in a more in-depth summary, or is it an instant disqualification? Story is the most important part here, but we do want to know what kind of art is going to accompany it. There’s a lot of factors going into determining which stories get picked, and art is a much smaller factor than story.
